Your fate lies in the hands of a committee of three-to-five people who'll determine your self worth from a report card and 600 words.
And now you're in, someone liked you enough to give you a chance. A special club with permission to send us a check every month whether or not you can. Ensure your future is secure, why don't you invest a little more? Without as much as an "are you sure?" click through, cause you're bored.
Wash your hands clean. Stop exploiting.
Another bridge, another subway car, another benefit. What's wrong with my generation? Can you blame us for our lack of faith in our institutions like the ones we call our own, carry from our classes to our homes. So take out another student loan, but have a good time 'til you go!!!

So Tired

Day drinking and your hands are shaking
indecisive if I plan on staying
sometimes it's hard to whittle down the words I'm saying
how do you say "I'm worried" without being condescending?
Maybe I could buy some real nice things.
You deserve to buy some real nice things.
AND IF YOU DON'T STACK UP, YOU'LL NEVER GET A JOB! YOU'LL NEVER AMOUNT TO ANYTHING WORTHWHILE, IN CASE YOU FORGOT!
Whether you hang on or drown, you're gonna get left behind somehow.
Maybe I could buy some real nice things.
You deserve to buy some real nice things.
So let's hold hands while we still can,
it's hard enough just making plans.
So let's hold hands while we still can
a language we both understand.
Whether you hang on or drown, you're gonna get left behind somehow.

Assisted self destruction, and an armband on my wrist. Is this a restlessness induced panic attack, or just sleep paralysis? Paint yourself into a corner, or you'll wind up deep in debt. Haven't been taking great care of myself, so I'll roll to the carpet.
Fa-fa-fa-fa-fa-fa-fa-figure it out.
Fa-fa-fa-fa-fa-fa-fa-figure it out, you said.
Swallow your bitter pills, sharpen your employable skills. Recurring dreams, the restaurant scene. Insomniac for an evening. The thin red line, no 9-to-5. I'm on the spot, and out of time.
Fa-fa-fa-fa-fa-fa-fa-figure it out.
Fa-fa-fa-fa-fa-fa-fa-figure it out, you said.

Delaware House

If I have to watch this commercial again, I'm gonna blow a gasket.
On a greyhound bus away from all my friends, this better be fucking worth it.
In the back of a sheetz on the way to the scene, tap on the shoulder (which means "hey dude, time to leave")
We don't talk burning questions, crises, insecurities
Let's agree to disagree, look at me, look at me!
I was a stay at home detective looking for a cure.
Another fumbled obligation from a lack of motivation stemming from the fact: I want something more.
At the Delaware House, which is where you go to get a pretzel and drink before you die.
Where we're going – it starts to hit me – I'll be living in a years time.
It's all the same...

A metric of success is derived from a number or statistic. All your hard work may not pay off, sleepless evenings for crickets. Maybe I should become a shill, try to get a placement deal. Validation by committee's not working for me so well.
And I can't imagine what it's like
Perpetually unsatisfied
And afraid I'm wasting my life.
Put on a jacket and go outside.
Stumbling, short of breath. Why don't you sit down for a sec? Eloquently state your diagnosis. "Lack of motivation based neurosis." Leaves you feeling scared, depressed, and worthless all 'cause of a self imposed deadline.
And I can't imagine what it's like
Perpetually unsatisfied
And afraid I'm wasting my life.
Put on a jacket and go outside.
And don't come back 'til you save latin.
Maybe I'm deluding myself. Maybe my hunch is right, I don't have what it takes to make a living doing what I want while feeling I've accomplished something. Toil in obscurity for twenty years, twenty for nothing. Working (still) a shitty job, taken ahold by indecision. I'll let you know when I know what I'm looking for. I haven't found it yet.
I can't imagine what it's like
Perpetually unsatisfied
And afraid I'm wasting my life.
Put on a jacket and go outside.

There's no silver lining sometimes, I can see that. Sometimes the best thing to do is keep your mouth shut, we all learn that. And I love you guys, but you're full of shit, and I'm another useless hypocrite. Goddamn, I wish I was more understanding.
And it's weird because, all sprawled out onto the rug, we stick the landing. Over radio waves, oceans, flyover states, Michigan, Lansing.
Man of science, man of faith! Either way you always wait!
I already know the answer, but I'll ask anyway. Gotta confirm what I know, cause what if it's all changed? 90% of life's success is pretending like you know best. Goddamn, what if they see through all my bullshit?
And it's weird because, whenever I bring it up, they just get defensive. Is it unreasonable to want to escape high school? Hope you're not offended.
Man of science, man of faith! Either way you always wait!

In the hotel hallways, standing in the elevator, some middle aged drunk couple tells us how we're gonna remember this forever.
"One of the best nights of your life." The doors close, they step out, and we just laugh. Cause how sad would it be if a shitty school dance was your life's peak?
The real world's better, so I'm told.
Burn all your savings on medical bills.
Are you really an adult if you can't swallow pills?
What keeps you going if you've reached your prime?
No one knows what they're doing half of the time.
ooooo...
